This week on WWE SmackDown, Kevin Owens was unveiled during his match against Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
The former Universal Champion suffered an eye injury, which came to light when Reigns chose to accept a receipt for the slap Owens inflicted on him at Survivor Series.
After the show, it was reported that Owens slapped Reigns in the face. He had a ruptured eardrum which kept him out of action for several weeks. This is the first time the two have faced off since then and Reigns made sure he gets his revenge.
At the time of the attack, Owens was looking at John Cena, which allowed Reigns to gain heel heat but in the end, Owens and the former 16-time World Champion won.
Roman Reigns’ three-year streak on WWE SmackDown ends
Roman Reigns lost in the main event tag team match on Friday night. It was the first time he had lost a match via pinfall in three years. Reigns was not the man who was pinned to lose the match, meaning his own record was upheld, but this is the first time he has lost a match via pinfall since TLC 2019.
Reigns has suffered several losses over the past year in tag team matches and against Seth Rollins at the Royal Rumble, but all of these matches have come via disqualification.
This means Kevin Owens is the first man to score a pinfall victory over Tribal Chief and it could be enough to guarantee his shot at the Undisputed Title at the Royal Rumble in three weeks’ time.
